This month, I flew United’s Premium Service product between New York and Los Angeles. While there have been many complaints about the service cutbacks on this route, I still found it to be a great product.

Pricing

Although it’s hard to determine the exact price range for tickets, remember that travel dates and routes can vary. There are also various options when it comes to booking a first or business class seat.

First class tickets can be very expensive, and typically, they won't be available for less than $4,000. Business class seats are typically around $3,000 to $4,000.

It’s important to remember that flight prices can vary depending on several factors, such as the date and season of travel.

Although first class is considered the premier cabin, it comes with more perks and benefits than business class.

Included checked bags

Business class passengers usually receive the same benefits as first class passengers. Some airlines, such as Delta and United, offer two free checked bags.

Alaska Airlines, Delta, United, and JetBlue all offer free checked bags.

Unfortunately, checked bags can add to the overall cost of a flight. Many airlines offer included bags to both first and business class travelers.

Seating

First class seats are usually equipped with plenty of space to accommodate passengers. They can also transform into bed-like configurations.

First class is the more luxurious section of the plane. It has the seats at the front of the aircraft and allows the passengers to spread out.

Food and beverages

On most airlines, first class passengers will be served fine china and meals are usually prepared by a skilled cook. Some airlines even have bars where passengers can indulge in alcoholic drinks and mingle with other passengers.

Lounge access

One of the best perks of flying first or business class is the ability to sit in the plane's lounge and relax while waiting for their flight.

Most airlines also have designated business and first class lounges. While first class passengers may only be allowed to enter the designated areas of the plane, business passengers can still use the other areas.

Boarding and deboarding

After deboarding, the first class passengers are taken off first, followed by the business class and economy passengers.

Since the SARS pandemic has caused quite a bit of travel chaos, some airlines have started boarding passengers in reverse order. This method allows them to limit the number of people in the aisle. First class passengers usually board the plane first.

Amenities

While going through the same security checkpoints and check-in procedures as other passengers, business class passengers usually receive more personalized service.

When comparing first class and business class, one of the main differences is that business class usually starts before the plane takes off. First class passengers also receive various perks, such as valet parking.

Business class passengers usually receive amenity kits that include various items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, and a sleep mask. First class passengers, on the other hand, don't have these luxuries.

In-flight service

While business class passengers are more focused on the details of the flight, the amenities and service they receive from first class are still inferior.

One of the biggest differences between first class and business is that flight attendants are dedicated to the first class cabin. This means that they'll be able to provide personalized service to just a few passengers.

Flying to Mexico City during a lockdown

Two weeks ago, I traveled to Florida and Georgia to visit my family. Since both states were off quarantine, I was able to visit them without being confined to my house. Because I'm an American citizen, I was able to fly to Mexico City during the outbreak.

Can you travel to Mexico for non-essential travel from the US?

Although the border between the US and Mexico is not open, it does not prohibit non-essential travel. Just make sure that you're not driving and flying.

My American friends in Mexico said that they did not have a problem getting in when they visit in June 2020.

Since I'm a Mexican resident, I'm always guaranteed entry to Mexico. On June 22, the US ambassador to Mexico tweeted that there are no restrictions on Americans wanting to visit Mexico.

Although hotels are closed in Mexico, staying at home can still be an option for Americans wanting to visit the country.

Mexico is one of the few countries that maintains its borders in a meaningful manner. It doesn't allow non-essential travel.

Why not fly from Orlando to Mexico City direct?

In 2019, there were numerous options from Orlando to Mexico City. However, since there are now more direct flights from Orlando to Mexico City, it's still worth trying.

Both Aeromexico and Volaris have significantly reduced their service. For me, flying with my dog was not an option since Volaris only allows dogs to fly with their owners.

Why not fly from Tampa to Mexico City?

While I was in Florida, I was able to visit my family, I was forced to take expensive flights out of Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport.

After trying to find a cheap flight from Orlando to Mexico City, I ended up with a flight from Houston to Orlando.

Due to my weight and the need to book business class, I had a hard time finding a flight. Fortunately, my cousin was able to drive me to the airport and helped me save hundreds of dollars.

Conclusion

While first class is definitely expensive, it’s also worth it for special occasions or for travel to certain places. Business Class can be a cheaper option.

Regardless of your budget, flying in economy is typically more advantageous than flying in business class.
